About us

Westlers is a family owned business established in 1960 in Hull by brothers-in-law Alick Burdon-Cooper and Charles Breese with Donald Watson, a family friend.

They purchased Hull-based Ostlers, a company manufacturing canned frankfurters in brine. The business soon grew and moved to its present site in 1963, near Malton in the rolling hills of the North Yorkshire countryside.

Hot dogs have always been a key product and the business developed around street traders and the seaside resort market. Over the years, Westlers has increased its business across the foodservice sector becoming one of the leading out of home suppliers to school and hospital catering, leisure, stadia, quick service and business & industry sectors.

Today Westlers is recognised for its ability to be specialists and innovators in several fields, with a high level of new product development. As Westlers approaches its 50th anniversary it is one of the UK’s leading independent food manufacturers producing over 240 different products including ready meals, bean meals and vegetables.

Our expertise enables us to provide innovative meal solutions for professional caterers and the retail sector to meet the needs of today’s time poor consumers. In recent years we have worked hard in consultation with existing and new customers to deliver new products that exceed expectations. Our new product development and culinary teams are category leaders across all channels in which we operate. We are able to track and adapt to key issues facing the food industry from the ever-increasing trend towards food on the go and the growth in demand for healthier meal and snacking solutions currently driving the retail, leisure and convenience sectors. We are part of a loyal, hardworking, local community who share our values and passion to succeed.
