Q –    What preservatives are used in canned food to give it such a long life?
A –    NONE in most cases.  The process of canning means that preservatives are not needed.  To find out more about the canning process click here.

Q –    As hot dogs are a big seller into school meals what are you doing to make them healthier in light of Jamie Oliver’s comments?
A –    Westlers had already significantly reduced the salt and fat in our hot dogs sold into school meals (actually before Jamie highlighted these issues).  Our hot dogs do not contain any Sudan 1 or Brown HT colouring or any MRM (Mechanically Recovered Meat).  Also has reduced Fat, Salt and Nitrite levels.  In fact Westlers hot dogs are far better in terms of salt and fat levels than just about any other sausage available. 

The basic ingredients in our hot dogs are cured pork, chicken, pea starch, potato starch, Soya protein, spice extract, sugar, colouring (natural paprika extract). The average fat content in our reduced salt and fat range of hot dogs is just 3.4g (8%) Salt content is 0.7%.

Q –    Where can I buy Westlers products
